Srinagar: In a recent development, the Jammu and Kashmir Home Department announced the appointment of Vidhi Kumar Birdi as the Inspector General of Police (IGP) for the Kashmir region.
Vidhi Kumar Birdi, an IPS officer from the AGMUT cadre of 2003, will assume this pivotal role, replacing Vijay Kumar.
Vijay Kumar, who holds the rank of Additional Director General of Police (ADGP) for Kashmir, has been transferred and posted as ADGP for Law and Order in the state. This reshuffling of key positions within the police department comes as a significant administrative change.
The official order regarding this transition stated, “Vijay Kumar, IPS (AGMUT: 1997), ADGP Kashmir, is transferred and posted as ADGP (Law & Order), J&K. A post in the rank of ADGP viz. ADGP (Law & Order), J&K, is temporarily added to the J&K Segment of AGMUT Cadre, in terms of 2nd proviso to sub-rule (2) of Rule 4 of the Indian Police Service (Cadre) Rules, 1954, for a period of two years or till the post is held by said officer, whichever is earlier.”
Additionally, Vidhi Kumar Birdi, the newly appointed IGP, will also take charge of the post of IGP Armed Kashmir until further orders.
The order further directs the Zonal Inspector Generals of Police (IGPs) in Kashmir and Jammu to report to the ADGP for Law and Order, J&K, operating under the overall command and control of the Director General of Police, J&K.
This administrative reshuffling is expected to have an impact on the law enforcement landscape in the region and is in line with routine transfers and postings that take place to ensure effective governance and maintenance of law and order.
